Yrieix BrissardBUSINESS STUDENT
HONG KONG · HKUST OPEN TO INTERNSHIPS & OPPORTUNITIES

Ambitious by default.
Curious about everything.

I’m Yrieix, a first-year business student at HKUST, with an intended focus on quantitative finance. I’m interested in financial markets, the maths behind them, and turning good questions into useful work.

CURIOSITY DOESN’T SIT STILL

Neither does this little thing.

01 / INSIDE MY HEAD

Ambition has exceeded the recommended settings.

AMBITION. ABSOLUTELY NOT TO SCALE.
The plan is ambitious. The spreadsheet is open.
Self-assessment. Suspiciously optimistic.
DETERMINATION CHECK

Current plan: keep going.

0 obstacles introduced. Motivation is minding its own business.
02 / WHERE I’M HEADING

Markets, maths,
and making things happen.

I’m early in the journey. These are the questions I want to spend more time on.

01

How prices happen.

Financial markets, market microstructure and quantitative research. I’m interested in the mechanisms behind a price, not just the number on a screen.

What I’m exploring +

How information, trading and uncertainty fit together — while building the mathematics, economics and statistics foundations to study them properly.

02

Make the maths make sense.

A thought. Then a tangent.

Advanced Mathematics in school, then co-founding a peer tutoring initiative. Explaining the steps is part of understanding them.

Where it started +

At Lycée Victor-Duruy, I helped students work through mathematics. I’m now building on that quantitative foundation and my early Python experience at HKUST.

03

Give the idea a reality check.

GridReady put a business question next to an infrastructure constraint. Our team built a prototype and won the hackathon.

What the project asks +

A promising site still needs power. The prototype explores grid constraints and estimated upgrades so that a business discussion starts with better questions.

CURIOSITY HAS A GRAVITATIONAL PULL

A good question.
And suddenly, I’m orbiting it.

My attention, when someone says “there’s an interesting problem.”

Currently attracting more questions than answers.

01 / FOLLOW THE QUESTION
03 / SELECTED WORK

From “what if”
to something you can see.

Our team’s winning project at the Hong Kong AI Summit hackathon, October 2026. Built around a real infrastructure question.

GridReady

Before building a data centre, there’s a less glamorous question: can the grid actually power it?

With my team, we built GridReady: a prototype exploring electrical feasibility in Hong Kong. It uses a simplified public-data model to compare grid constraints and potential upgrades. We won the hackathon with this project.

Ideas need energy. So do data centres.
Business problemEnergy & infrastructurePrototype
Take a closer look +

The question
How can an early site decision account for grid constraints?

The approach
A simplified model built from public maps and published information. It explores simulated grid demand and compares potential upgrades before a site commitment.

What it puts on the table
Capacity constraints, overloaded equipment and upgrade options with estimated cost and duration. The goal is to make an early feasibility conversation more concrete.

The result
A working team prototype, a project presentation and a hackathon win in Hong Kong, October 2026.

The boundary
Capacity and cost figures are estimates. This is a prototype, not an engineering assessment.

Still curious. Still learning. Still going.

04 / LEARNING BY DOING

I’ve started asking questions.

Early experience, student initiatives and plenty still to learn.

Academic specialization choices

FLEXIBLE PLAN. STUBBORN DIRECTION.

A setback can bend the plan.

It has yet to convince me to stop making one.

Tap to bend the grid. With a mouse, pull a point and let go. Arrow keys work too.

The plan is taking this surprisingly well.

02 / BEND. REASSESS. KEEP GOING.
05 / THE PERSON BEHIND THE TABS

Paris to Hong Kong.
Questions came along.

AWAY FROM THE SPREADSHEET

Rowing. Golf.
Probably thinking about markets.

I want to understand how markets work — and get better at the tools that help explain them.

My interests include market microstructure and quantitative research. I’m building on high-school Python experience and a strong interest in mathematics, while learning the fundamentals of business.

Before HKUST, I studied in Paris at Lycée Victor-Duruy. Alongside classes, I got involved in maths tutoring, debate, Model United Nations and helping younger students choose their specializations. I like a question I can work through — and a conversation that makes me reconsider the answer.

THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE. EVENTUALLY.

One goal.
A few interesting detours.

Finance, maths, a hackathon… apparently curiosity doesn’t travel in straight lines.

Change the curve or tap to turn it. Arrow keys rotate it.

All of these detours are educational. Allegedly.

03 / AMBITION, WITH SCENIC ROUTES
06 / SLIGHTLY LESS SERIOUS

A few things that
explain a lot about me.

The maths tutor, the market-curious student and the person who insists on one more try. Click responsibly. Or don’t.

I can’t leave that number alone.

One number breaks the +2 pattern. Which one?

MY AMBITION, MINUS THE CORPORATE JARGON

“Strategically positioning myself for long-term professional growth.”

ROWING

One more stroke.

Timing matters. The boat is very direct with its feedback.

LESS OVERTHINKING. MORE FORWARD.

Rowing, minus the wet shoes.

GOLF

Confidence ≠ accuracy.

A useful reminder that wanting it really badly is only part of the equation.

CONFIDENCE IS NOT A UNIT OF DISTANCE.

Optimism: high. Ball: unconvinced.

07 / THE 20-SECOND REGATTA

Ambition is useful.
Timing helps too.

Race my suspiciously consistent rival. Press Row when the marker reaches the blue zone. Well-timed strokes move you further.
